POSITION SUMMARY
The Design Engineer II performs engineering work requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives. Requires work experience acquired in an entry-level position, or appropriate graduate-level study. For training and developmental purposes, assignments may include some work that is typical of a higher level. The Design Engineer 2 reports to the Engineering Product Manager.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Include the following, but other duties may be assigned:
- Assists in the development of new products, concepts for special products and makes improvements to existing products.
- Reviews existing designs and Bills-Of-Material (BOM) and manipulates them to meet the needs of Modified-To-Order (MTO) and Engineered-To-Order (ETO) products.
- Details general arrangements, welded assemblies, sub-assemblies, process, and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), tubing diagrams and functional specifications.
- Prepares part drawings for design packages and pattern files for CAM use.
- Prepares BOM for equipment consistent with product structure, prepares ERP system commitments in accordance with design needs.
- Responsible for both small, large, or special engineering projects with many complex features as assigned by the Engineering Product Manager.
- Responsible for the design of complete compressor packages to specifications and input from sales, customers and various manufacturing departments related to a specific product sector.
- Investigates design related problems revealed in fabrication, assembly, test, quality assurance and service for a specific product sector.
- Conducts design reviews for new and modified equipment as needed.
- Responsible for ERP system commitments for product sector equipment.
- Responsible for meeting cost reduction targets for a specific product sector.
- Interfaces with Sales, Purchasing, Customer Support and various Manufacturing departments and customers.
- May oversee the work of other technicians or designers.
- Assigned collateral projects and duties to support departmental needs.
- Some travel will be required to customer locations, trade shows, etc.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- Minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
- Minimum two (2) years of design experience with 3-D modeling software.
- Must be detail oriented and able to multitask and prioritize demands.
- Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have manufacturing environment experience.
- Strong demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
VALUED BUT NOT REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Familiarity with the use of electronic test equipment, UL 508 and 508A, as well as National Electric Code.
- Familiarity with Autodesk Inventor preferred.
- Familiarity with sheet metal design preferred.
- Familiarity with thermodynamic principles and calculations.
- FE (EIT) preferred, but not required.
- Knowledge of compressors, pneumatics and electro-mechanical systems preferred.
· Professional membership in ASME, SME, APICS or other similar societies.

Normal working schedule: Monday through Friday with a flexible work schedule available. Core business hours are from 8am to 5pm. The noise levels in some manufacturing facilities frequently may exceed the normal dBA. The employee is required to wear eye protection when walking through the plant.
