Job Summary:

  • The Resiliency Planner Intern focuses on operational risk management on many levels by being a fast starter able to execute individually and in a team environment during adverse events. This role helps the organization respond and adapt when disruptions occur and maintain business operations while keeping staff, data and company reputation safe. The Resiliency Planner Intern engages in project management, needs assessment, processes improvement, and event recovery efforts that keeps the business running.

Job Responsibilities

  • Participate in event management for business disruption events for business continuity, crisis management along with health and safety helping to ensure Markel associates are safe, operations continue, and assets are protected.
  • Assist in maintaining policies, standards, procedures and guidelines to support the Business Resiliency Program including Business Impact Analysis (BIA) documents, incident/event response plans, continuity plans, crisis management plans, and emergency response plans.
  • Assist in creations of exercise scenarios, document exercises, help run exercises, collect gaps and publish results.
  • Gain insight along with testing and maintenance of emergency notification system and business resilience portal.
  • Assist in rollout of a Business Continuity framework and standardization in support of maturing the program.
  • Participate in post mortem sessions with impacted parties to ensure exposed gaps/lessons learned are documented, mitigated/remediated, or added as an enterprise risk.
  • Participate in the annual Business Impact Analysis process assisting business continuity coordinators and leadership in gathering business function information, key dependencies, outage impact scoring, and delivering results to leadership.
  • Produce metrics to report on the state of the Business Resiliency Program that is shared with multiple levels of the business.
  • Assist in ongoing administration of Business Resilience intranet site providing content updates and overall general awareness of the program

Job Requirements:

  • Current college student (rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors) pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Crisis Management, Business Continuity, Emergency Preparedness, etc.
  • Strong academic performance (3.0 GPA minimum)
  • Quick learner, with ability to adapt to changing environments
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks independently in a high-pressure environment during adverse events
  • Ability to interact professionally with a diverse group
  • Strong problem-solving abilities; keen attention to detail and commitment to meeting deadlines
  • Ability to understand how individual and team deliverables fit in to strategic roadmap, assess and communicate changes
  • Ability to work in our Richmond, VA HQ or remotely
  • Candidates that will not require sponsorship now or in the future.
